It’s amazing just how much we could help clean up our environment if people would just recycle the aluminum cans they thoughtlessly throw into the trash a send to the landfills every single day. The American people throw away no less than thirty-five billion aluminum cans every single year!

If people just took the time to recycle all these cans we would save an amount of energy that would be equivalent to about one hundred fifty Exxon Valdez type oil spills every single year.

Americans throw away enough aluminum in only three months to rebuild our entire commercial air fleet. There is probably enough wasted aluminum in all our landfills to make sure we would not have to destroy any more of our land just to mine the aluminum for at least twenty years and maybe more!

The basic aluminum soda or beer can returns to the grocery or liquor store shelf as a newly made and refilled can in ninety days or less. After they are collected, re-melted, and then rolled out into sheets, and then manufactured into new can filled with fizzy pop or beer of your choice. If people would just take the time to recycle their aluminum cans they could purchase the same recycled aluminum can from a store shelf no less than four times a year.

Recycling aluminum cans saves an incredible 95% of the energy that is needed to extract the aluminum from bauxite ore. The savings in such energy expenditure in 1992 were enough to light a city the size of Pittsburgh for six years!  Imagine how much would have been saved if everyone had been recycling all the aluminum cans that have been needlessly sent to all the waste dumps in this country!

The statistics of just how much money and energy that could be saved recycling aluminum cans is astounding.  Aluminum can recycling provides myriad benefits to the environment as well as a host of benefits to the economic well-being of a individual community, and it’s people, organizations, companies and industries.

Aluminum is a completely sustainable metal. It can be recycled over and over again. In the year 2003 alone, over fifty-four billion cans were recycled. This saved the amount of energy equivalent to fifteen million barrels of crude oil!  That’s the entire gas consumption in the United States for one day!
